5 Ways To Spend Time Outside In The Fall

Fall is always fabulous in Calgary with its bright red, orange and yellow leaves set against a bright blue sky.

If you want to make the most out of this beautiful season, here’s our top five list of what to do outside this fall.

1. Soak in The Hot Tub

When the air has a bit of a nip to it, it’s hard to beat a dip in your outdoor hot tub. Whether you schedule your spa time for morning, afternoon or evening, the crisp autumn air makes your spa time even more invigorating. So sink back and relax as the heated water and jet massage melt away stress and tension from your body.

And don’t forget to take lots of deep breaths of the fresh fall air. Not only can it lower stress hormones in the body, when combined with sunshine, it stimulates a chemical in the brain known as serotonin, which regulates mood, appetite, digestion, sleep and memory.

2. Go For a Fall Colours Hike

There’s no place better to get lots of fresh air and sunshine than on the hiking trail. Not only is hiking a fun activity for the whole family, but it’s also great exercise. If you need some help finding walking and hiking trails, look no further than this list. It has a lot of great options that will get you out and enjoying Mother Nature.

3. Huddle Around a Campfire

What can be more relaxing than sitting around a campfire, chatting with friends and family? If you want to add a new element to your back yard that you’ll be sure to enjoy for many years to come, then a fire pit is for you. Whether you have big or small gatherings, you can make them fun for all ages by sharing ghost stories, having a sing-along or making s’mores.

4. Go For A Bike Ride

Now that the cooler weather is here and the bugs are less plentiful, it’s the ideal time to schedule a cycling trip. Whether you go alone, with family or friends, head outside the city and enjoy a leisurely bike ride in the country. You’ll be able to enjoy all of the fall colours while getting a bit of exercise.

5. Collect Leaves

If you have young children, going on a leaf hunt can be a lot of fun. Task your children with finding certain types and colours of leaves as you walk through the park. When your hunt is over, make a leaf collage or other type of art out on the patio.

If you really want to take the leaf theme to the next level, rake leaves into a giant pile and let your kids dive in. Sure, it’s messy, but it’s a lot of fun and gives you a lot of good pictures.
